Scholarship Philosophy Statement

I view scholarship and teaching as two aspects of academia that are mutually inclusive and dependent. For that reason, most of my research up to this point is concerned with finding answers related to teaching and learning. Lately, I am developing interest in research that blends with other disciplines and I am excited about exploring new directions and possibilities in the area of neuroaesthetics.

In my efforts to develop into a well-rounded scholar, in the past four years, I engaged in all four categories of scholarship as described in Boyer’s report Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate (Boyer, E. L., 1990). Four categories are: Scholarship of Discovery, Scholarship of Integration, Scholarship of Application, and Scholarship of Teaching.

The following pages exemplify my scholarly work in all four categories.
