Who am I?
My name is Annjanette (“AJ”) Sommers, an associate professor at the School of Physician Assistant Studies at Pacific University in Oregon. I have been in some sort of medical field since 1995, became a PA in 2004, and started teaching in the PA School in 2008. My most formative clinical experiences were in pediatric medicine and clinical research. Numbers and statistics are my preferred languages. Suitably, I am one of the instructors for the graduate project. Despite my love of all things mathematical, I do NOT believe that statistics should be the only influence on clinical decision making. I believe that clinical reasoning results from combining medical knowledge with valid evidence, both of which are magnified by our own clinical experience; it is then limited by our clinical setting and our patients’ preferences.
I love truth and I seek after it. I am devoted to displaying credible information as it relates to clinical reasoning.
Why did I want to start a blog?
I want to link the medical community to the wonderful innovations relating to the School. Specifically, I have gained volumes through working with my students in completing their capstone projects. Their work speaks for itself. It requires dissemination.
What can you expect to be posted?
Even though the majority of the posts will be summaries of the graduate projects completed by students, my coworkers and I will also be including the latest happenings at the School of PA Studies.
