Enhancing the Concentration in Interprofessional Education through Technology Integration

| 0

This reporting session presents the status of an ongoing project to enhance Pacific University’s Concentration in Interprofessional Education through the development of an e-portfolio system.

The Concentration in Interprofessional Education at Pacific University is available to students who pursue interprofessional experiences beyond what is required by their degree program. This formal recognition is documented on transcripts as a specialization, indicating students have gained specific competencies in interprofessional education. After students complete all work to earn the Concentration, they enroll in a course to submit their portfolio. In their portfolio, students describe each interprofessional experience completed, identify competencies gained from completing these experiences, and provide reflection. Updates were needed to support the growing popularity of the Concentration among students and increasing enrollment targets. The best path forward was technology integration, specifically the development of an e-portfolio system to support reflective practice among students and assess their learning outcomes. This project received a TARGET grant in 2019 to support this development. The purpose of this reporting session is to present the status of this ongoing project after a pilot semester (Fall 2019). Specific activities related to this project included creating marketing materials, additional training materials, and the e-portfolio system; the latter has been the main work of the project. Prior to this award, the Concentration had a paper-based portfolio design, which provided the framework for creating the new e-portfolio workspace. The project’s assessment and development plan included data points from multiple dimensions, including documentation and self-assessment from the Concentration coordinator, student evaluations, evidence of student learning outcomes, and faculty/peer assessment. Preliminary findings will be shared during this session, along with next steps. An overview of all interprofessional education at Pacific University will also be presented to show where the Concentration fits within the bigger picture.
