If you would like a letter of recommendation from me, this document tells you what I need to be able to write you a strong letter.
If you are interested in field biology opportunities, here are some places to look for positions:
- US Fish and Wildlife opportunities, both internships and careers.
- The Physiological Ecology section of the Ecological Society of America collects listings in different job categories, including internships, undergraduate experiences, and field technician positions. Well organized!
- The NSF REU program has lots of opportunities for continuing undergraduates–both REU sites and individual REUs. For field ecology, programs at the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab and Mountain Lake, but there are many other opportunities as well.
- The Chicago Botanic Garden has both internships and REUS, including a program specifically for Veterans.
- Eco-Log can be overwhelming, but many field positions (internships, seasonal, etc.) are posted there.
If you are thinking about going to grad school in ecology, evolution, behavior, or environmental biology, these resources may be useful:
- A document from a Cal State program laying out the “hidden” curriculum of grad school
- A collection of resources on everything from whether to go to grad school, the application process, funding, and more!
- Some advice about applying to grad school (start about 20 minutes in).
- A video (recorded during the pandemic) about possible careers in ecology, and diverse paths to them.
